Meet the Candidates for Local & State Office in Sarasota County

Florida House of Representatives District 70

Sharon Preston-Folta, host of TownTalk TampaBay on WSLR 96.5 FM, interviewed Michelle Grimsley, one of the four candidates for District 70 in the Florida House of Representatives. Grimsley, Keisha Bell, Mark Oliver, and Michele Rayner are running in the Democratic primary for Florida House District 70 on August 18, 2020. As there is no Republican opposition in this race, it will be an open primary and all registered voters will be able to vote. The race will be decided in the primary. This is an open seat as incumbent Rep. Wengay Newton is running for a seat on the Pinellas County Commission. District 70 spans parts of Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Manatee counties including several underserved areas.

Sarasota County School Board Candidates

Protect Our Public Schools (POPS) Manasota and Suncoast NEA-Retired held a virtual forum for all four Sarasota County School Board candidates. The forum featured District 2 candidates David Graham and Karen Rose and District 3 candidates Eric Robinson and Tom Edwards. These races will be decided in the August 18 primary.

Sarasota County School Board District 3

Cathy Antunes, host of the Detail on WSLR 96.5 FM, interviewed Tom Edwards, a candidate for the District 3 seat on the Sarasota County School Board. This election will be decided in the August primaries.

Sarasota City Commission District 3

Sarasota County Sheriff 

The Sarasota Republican Women's Club held a forum with the County Sheriff candidates, Paul Fern and Kurt Hoffman, on March 6, 2020.
